Photographic Exhibition - The Cow Goes Wild
The CowArtworks Gallery - November 2009
The first Johannesburg showing of Robin’s exciting, evocative and sometimes quirky work was a minor smash at Johnnesburg’s quality specialist photographic gallery, CowArtworks, with pictures being snapped-up by discerning buyers, some images selling 2 and 3 times. The ehibition featured a mixture of wildlife, people and scenic images, some colour but the majority b&w.
To view the featured pics. look in “prints” on the website. Interestingly Robin’s book African Odyssey was much in demand and sold some 15 copies - not bad in 3 hours in an Art Gallery! Watch for news of the next exhibition.

Wild Africa - New Book in Progress
Following the success and critical acclaim for Robin's first book 'African Oddysey A Photographer's Journey' his publisher Newpro (Fountain Press) commissioned a new book 'Hatari - Wild Africa' continuing his explorations of Africa's prime big game areas.
Hatari is the Swahili word for danger and defines the experiences and adventures encountered on Safari. 'Hatari - Wild Africa' is due for publication later in 2009.

Luangwa Valley Shoot
Sue and I have just returned from Zambia’s South Luangwa Valley shooting a chapter for a new book and doing a ‘recce’ for the first of our forthcoming photo-safari workshops. The shoot provided some spectacular and interesting images - check the gallery - w1039, w4004, w6004, w8004, w8005, w9012 for just a few examples - more will be added later. The lion family with very young cubs was especially photogenic, very active and one cub was obviously the family favourite. There was also some terriffic baboon family interaction.
Perhaps the most unusual sighting though was a hippo being devoured by crocs. We’re not sure if they actually killed the hippo, it’s really unlikely and I can’t find any record anywhere of crocs killing hippos, but, there was a tremendous explosion of water and the crocs were doing the death roll (w6004) - quite a sight - we got about 60 or 70 images. Anyway what do you think? We’d like to hear of any similar experiences. The Luangwa is a fabulous area - wonderful animal and bird life and the sunsets are just amazing - the light seems to change every day, Luangwa River Lodge is a great base from which to explore this game-rich area, more than comfortable with great food too and their guides are among the best. www.luangwariverlodge.net
African Bush Banquet
The African Bush Banquet held at The Southern Cross School in Hoedspruit has become a must-attend annual event, South Africa’s most prestigious al-fresco gastronomic challenge. This years theme was Think Green - recycling and conservation. Many of South Africa’s top lodges take part and for us it was a chance to meet up with some old friends and make new ones.
It’s interesting, each lodge has to set up a kitchen from absolute scratch - they start with a bare piece of ground! No electricity or gas - open fires only for cooking! It is a competiion and each lodge chooses its own menu and couple it with wines. Prizes are awarded for best kitchen, best table, best starter, main course and desert. My personal favourite was Shiluvari, an intimate lodge on the banks of the Albasini Dam, renowned for it’s table. The Banquet turned into quite a party and there were a few sore heads the next day, but all for a good cause, substantial money was raised for the charities.
